THE BHARATH ABHYUDAYA SEVA SAMITHI

The Bharath Abhyudaya Seva Samithi (BASS), is an Indian Progressive Service Society, a civil society registered non-governmental Voluntary organization (NGO) founded in 1978  to promote Social justice, equality and empowerment to the poor disadvantaged communities  in Guntur district.

BASS facilitate Social, Economical, Educational, Health and Emergency Relief and rehabilitation services to the poor and needy populations in rural and urban areas in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh without any discrimination. BASS is much concatenate on women, children, youth and vulnerable people development activities

BASS main goal of to work for 1. Eradicate Extreme Poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal Primary education,
3. Promote gender Equality and empower women
4. Reduce Child Mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/Aids, Malaria and other diseases.
7. Ensure Environmental sustainability and
8. Develop a Global Partnership for Development by 2015 in the target areas of Guntur and Prakasham Districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The objectives are

  1. To buildup an equitable society through empowerment of the vulnerable and poor communities include women, children and physically and mentally challenged by facilitate social, economical, educational, economical, health care and gender equity and emergency relief activities.

  1. Facilitate livelihood development by reduction of vulnerabilities and poverty of the poor through income generation, micro finance, Self Help groups’ promotion and bank linkages.

  1. To educate and motivate the poor by creates a strong civil society and an ability to influence government decisions and direct access for the poor to government resources.

  1. To discover changes in the gender relationships by facilitate equal control, access, decisions making and freedom to shape their own destinies.

  1. Creation of balanced and inclusive society with equal participation from Dalits, Tribes, women and other excluded groups in the society.

  1. Education and health care for all and equal access to justice and the fulfillment of basic needs like food, shelter, safe drinking water and sanitation.

  1. To educate and promote access of universal primary education to all the children under 14 years of age.

  1. To reduce child labor and schools dropouts by establish special innovative educational programs.  

Current Activities of BASS

BASS is organizing Community Based Disaster Preparedness Program with the support of Caritas India in 15 vulnerable disaster prone villages in Niampatnam, Nagaram and Repalle revenue Mandals from 2004 to 10. We have promoted unity an collectiveness and formed task force committees to protect their villages in disasters and reduce losses of property and deaths. We are also promoted linkages with local government to handle this program after completion, which is practicing now effectively.     

Women empowerment program with local resources in 5 villages in Edlapadu Mandal

Health education and Medical relief programs with the support of Survive Miva, United Kingdom, and Action Medeor, Germany in 20 villages in Guntur District. Our volunterer medcal team regularly orgnise this programs on going.   

Orphanage Home for abandoned poor children in Gopalpuram of Edlapadu Mandal with the support and partnership of IKO, Belgium. Currently we have 25 children in both girls and boys in the home

Child labor eradication special school program in Swarnabharathinagar Nagar, a major slum in Guntur city with the collaboration and partnership of Government of India under National Child Labor project. We have 50 working children in the school. We are already successful in controlling child labor in Guntur city from 1996 from various places with partnership of Government of India.    


BASS is always in front in Relief and rehabilitation services to the victims of disasters include man made and natural calamities continuously for the last 31 years.  BASS is also having collaboration and partnership with Guntur Diocese Social Service and Welfare Society in development activities. BASS is one of the members to the Guntur district Disaster mitigation Committee under the chairmanship of District collector, Guntur.


BASS Details of registrations

BASS is legally entitled as registered organization under the Societies Registration Act 1860 with registered No.162 of 1978 dated 16-12-1978. And also subsequently registered with the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs under the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act, 1976 with registered number 010190145 dated 14-8-1992. And also registered under 12 A of Income Tax Act 1961 dated 27-2-2004.


BASS is regularly following all the norms and conditions of the Government of India by submitting annual financial reports to the Income Tax Department and as well as Ministry of Home Affairs time to time and  also regularly renewing Executive Committee as per the  Bylaws of the organization.  BASS is a permanent member of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Mitigation Committee representing from Guntur district and also members to the Andhra Pradesh Forum, a network Catholic relief organizations working for all the disaster prone Districts in the Andhra Pradesh state. 

Staff

BASS is having 18 qualified skilled staff members and 20 volunteers implementing all the programs of BASS. BASS is also having a good office building at Guntur city and two field offices at Sinkaplem for administrate Disaster prone areas and another office at Edlapadu and Gopalapuram for regular ongoing programs.  

The Chief Coordinator of BASS Mr. Joseph Anthony is having a Diploma on Community Based Development 2004 from Coady International Institute, St.Francis Xavier University Canada and also specialized in How to Eradicate Child Labour.  BASS is having experienced team of Medical Doctors and health staff involved in all the health educational camps.  BASS is always in front by serving the poor to give them life.

  1. Disaster Preparedness program for 15 new cyclone prone villages

  1. vocational Skills training for school dropout youth in Guntur city

  1.   HIV AIDS Awareness and Prevention program in Guntur district
